The Gallery

The Gallery was opened in February, 1972 at 132 West 2nd Street in New York by DJ Nicky Siano and his brother Joe. It closed in November 1974 and then re-opened at the corner of Mercer and Houston, closing in October 1977. Grace Jones and Loleatta Holloway made their debut performances at The Gallery. Mick Jagger and David Bowie were turned away at the door. It was a safe space for anyone, regardless of your race or sexuality- a space where the only requirement was to have a good time.
